Organic Grain and Milling has an exclusive license from the NDSU Research Foundation for organic production of a higher fiber oat variety. Scientists at North Dakota State University discovered years ago that certain varieties of oats contain naturally high levels of beta glucan, that little polymer that does so much to promote health. Through natural crosses, they developed a higher fiber variety. OGM is marketing HiFiTM oats to bring bring manufacturers the opportunity to use higher fiber oats in their products. HiFiTM Oats have 40-50% more beta glucan, soluble fiber, than other oat varieties. Research shows that oat beta-glucan can lower cholesterol levels, increase immune system function, and lower blood sugar levels.
